Whoa Whoa...

The Sidewalk Chalk Project is back by popular demand for season 2.

After the summer excursions where tswcp dj's (myself and Maxwell K.I.D.) took to the streets to find new music, experience different cultures and in max's case, study, we are back and ready to re control the airwaves. Many fans and soon to be followers have been asking us when we are going to launch. The answer is soon. (We would have a definate answer but since we are moving to FM radio and a brand new station, there is a few wrinkles to sort out before we storm in and take over) We are shooting for either Thursday the 18th or Thursday the 25th. Time: hoping for that 10pm slot.

Well, now that I am cancer-free, I can begin posting once again. Needless to say, Johnny and I have been hard at work continuing to compile music for the show. We have this week off thanks to lovely Spring Break. During this vicodin-filled break, which will hopefully enhance my creative senses, I will be finding brand new music for your ears.

We have gotten word that John and I will be able to attend various music festivals this summer for free (e.g. Lollapalooza, Warped Tour, Bonnaroo, Rothbury, etc.) in order to expose ourselves to what's hip and new. Although we'll greatly enjoy it, it's all for YOUR benefit. We're a couple of very selfless DJ's :)

Remember, don't forget about the Most Ridiculous Picture of Erik Schneider contest. The winner gets a free The Whale t-shirt and gets to sit in during a show with us. Also, there is the Whale Logo Design Contest going on. Submit your best idea for what the new Whale logo should be!

Another successful show

You'd think the extra hour of air time would've freed up our playlist a bit. Wrong. For some reason, this time we had an even more difficult time deciding which songs would be the best for our VD Special. We ended up going over a few minutes (but who's listening, right?). Regardless, I felt like we improved on some things and are still having a blast doing it (except I start to feel a little claustrophobic in that little room after awhile haha). For those of you who IMed us during the show, thank you very much! Not only do we like the feedback, but it's really cool being able to talk to our fellow DJ's and get to know them.

The BRIT Awards on Wednesday should prove very interesting. Word on the street has it that The Klaxons and Rihanna will perform a duet of "Umbrella" haha. Madness. To have a little fun, I'll predict who I think will win, and we'll see how I do.

Compilation CD from TSWCP.

Exciting news.
We are creating a compilation cd of some of our favorite artists and new music. This will be the one of many which will include playlists from the show and music we listen to on our own time like in the car, on the train, spontaneous dance parties. You get the picture.

We are now accepting artwork designs and such for the first Sidewalk Chalk Project compilation cd.
Since the legal issues are still being worked out as to if we can charge money (like a dollar or two for the cd to help with shipping and the production of stickers and cases) we wont be able to pay you as of now : ( but you get your artwork or photograph for everyone to see in the cd.

So as of right now it will be FREE.

We came, we saw, we rocked!

Well, we completed our first show. I wasn't sure we were going to survive (and unfortunately Erik Schneider did not). After returning to our quarters, licking our wounds from the horrors of our first show, we realized it really was not that bad. The beginning was pretty difficult being so nervous, but I think we rolled through that nicely. In fact, it was probably one of the best experiences of my entire life being able to broadcast music to 50+ people in five different states. Not only that, but everyone was really supportive and was impressed with the job we did. That really means a lot to us (me especially) when we can receive feedback about what we're doing well and what we need more work on.

As expected, we want the show to evolve and continue to improve, and we're already working on a few things to give our listeners a better experience. Next Thursday, John and I are heavily considering adding the 12am-1am timeslot. Also, since it will be Valentine's Day, we would like to play some love songs to really get people in the V-Day spirit. Speaking from experience being an October-born child, I was the product of some V-Day shenanigans so we'd like to foster a great love making atmosphere for all our listeners out there.

John and I have also been talking to some local bands to send us some of their material. We've also subscribed to some cool mags where we can read up on some up and coming artists/bands. John and I are committed to providing the best new music. We will stop at nothing (hence why we've been ignoring the radio station's policy of playing 50% of our playlist from "the stack").

We're really excited the direction things are going, and we expect things to get better. Remember: 11pm Thursday evening; let the Sidewalk Chalk Project get your Valentine's Day shenanigans in motion!

I didnt believe it at first when we were accepted into the hallowed halls...i mean two small rooms that is the WCKS "The Whale" radio station.

This project is much like a thanksgiving feast. We have all the meal courses and even the vegetarian option for those of you who dont like the carnivorous eat your meat style. Max and I are much like the hosts of the feast, spoon feeding your ears with delightful tunes that you may or may not have heard before. We feel that in todays mainstream liberalized culture, great music isnt getting its fair share of airtime and rightful listening. The independent and local music scene work hard at exposing their music but often get overshadowed by the typical full blown MTV and VH1 marketing schemes. Max and I just want to give a taste from the other side of the spectrum, sharing what we hold dear which is away from the "teenie bopper", the "get your daddy's aunts cousin pregnant then shoot her brother", the "love song that sounds just like every other love song" and the "redneck bang up your chevy pickup truck" kind of music.

Much like how sidewalk chalk isn't all one color, its a splash of everything in between the ROYGBIV, our show is bringing the best out of whats right under our feet from all over the musical genre charts..
This isn't for money. Isn't for sale. Isn't for headlines.
This is for real. This is for truth. This is for believing in something new.

What can I say? I'm incredibly excited to embark on a brand new adventure in world of radio broadcasting. With only a very short amount of time spent in the radio station, I'm a little nervous to get things underway. Things will be a little jittery at first, but I'm sure that will quickly pass.

John and I share the same goal with our show; we want to expose as much new, enjoyable music to as large of an audience as possible. As our favorite Danish disco revival band, Junior Senior, would say, "There's too much good stuff out there to ignore." We want to promote local music endeavors as well as play a plethora of obscure, talented arists/bands. John will be focusing more on screamo, emo-tronic, melodic hardcore, and from his softer side, ambient/acoustic. I, on the other hand, will be playing dance/house, indie rock, indie pop, Britpop, and will even dabble a little in Southern rock/blues rock.

On this blog we will be posting news about the show, concert dates, release dates, a little personal information about the DJ's (that's us), and whatever the hell else comes to mind.
